The world´s leading travel guide publisher Lonely Planet chose the Atacama Desert for its next Best in Travel edition as one of the 10 regions that must be visited this 2015.  In this edition travelers are suggested to visit the best destinations, among them cities, regions and countries from all over the globe.

This tourist website states that Atacama caught the world´s attention during 2010 when 33 miners were trapped underground.  Later, Hollywood filmed an adventure picture about this underground drama, contrasting with the bright clear desert skies.

Following this idea, Lonely Planet emphasized that “Chile has launched the largest astronomical project in existence.  With astronomer-led stargazing tours leaving nightly from the village of San Pedro de Atacama, there´s never been a better time to visit.”

The Atacama Desert was highlighted together with other regions such as Galipolli (Turquey), Rocky Mountains (USA) and Toledo (Belize), among others and was the only destination in South America recommended in the “Regions” category, taking its landscape, historical and cultural heritage into account.

Lonelyplanet.com has 10.3 million unique users a month and 45.9 million visited pages.
